Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
including Copper Creek Villas & Cabins and Boulder Ridge Villas
Disney's Wilderness Lodge is a deluxe hotel located within the Magic Kingdom resort area on Bay Lake at Disney World. The inspiration for this impressive resort comes from the grand old lodges of the American National Park Service. There is something special about this resort and it's easy to see why it consistently earns high marks from Disney resort guests. Fire Rock Geyser and Geyser Point lakeside dining are just a couple examples of the many amenities that set this resort apart. The Disney Vacation Club also has two areas associated with Wilderness Lodge. They are: the lakeside Copper Creek Villas & Cascade Cabins and Boulder Ridge Villas. Disney's Wilderness Lodge does not have access to the monorail system but does provide direct transportation to the Magic Kingdom via boat; the other theme parks are reached by bus. This is the least expensive hotel in the Magic Kingdom resort area, making it very popular with families.

Wilderness Lodge Pro & Con
Advantages - Where some resorts have lots of smaller separate buildings, Wilderness Lodge guests enjoy the convenience of all rooms, with the exception of the cabins, being housed in just two buildings. These buildings both have internal hallways and elevators to their lobbies. Regular hotel guests can access shopping, services and most of the restaurants in air conditioned comfort without having to exit the building. Guests in the DVC villas have a short covered walk to the main building. This is really nice for guests with small children, mobility concerns or anyone who appreciates the convenience of proximity. You can watch the Electric Water Pageant from the beach or boat dock. You can ride a boat directly to the Magic Kingdom. Proximity to the monorail loop resorts greatly expands your dining options! The resort is well themed and that carries through the well designed pool and water play areas as well as Disney Vacation Club (DVC) offerings: Boulder Ridge Villas and Copper Creek Villas & Cascade Cabins. DVC rooms have kitchens or kitchenettes. To add to the theme and ambience, Fire Rock Geyser goes off on the half hour during the day. This is one of those Disney resorts where you can have a great time even if you never go to one of the theme parks - there are pools, a water play area, fitness center, spa, paths, outdoor movies, and special activities for the kids. The rooms are among the best values found at the Disney deluxe resorts.
Disadvantages - Even though it is one of the best values among the Disney deluxe resorts, it isn't cheap and may be beyond the budget of many families. Rooms above the Whispering Canyon Café can get some of the noise from the restaurant. Most of the rooms can only accommodate four guests; it is possible to have five to a room if the fifth person is a baby in a crib. Restaurants can be a bit of an issue here - the food court is a little too small and finding a table can be a hassle during peak travel times and Geyser Point is outside lakefront dining which can be fantastic or terrible, depending on the weather. There are two table-service restaurants at the resort but Artist Point is a "Signature Dining" location which means that it may be too expensive for regular use. The Whispering Canyon Café is fun and cute but it is also noisy. The resort could benefit from a "normal" restaurant. However, your proximity to the Grand Floridian, Polynesian Village, and Contemporary resorts do open up a lot of restaurant options for you.
Our Opinion - Disney's Wilderness Lodge resort has a lot to offer. There is an impressive level of detail here - they didn't just slap a few lodge style decor items onto a standard hotel. Being close to the Magic Kingdom theme park is certainly a benefit, especially since you generally pay less than the rates found at the Magic Kingdom / Monorail loop resorts. Because of all the on-site and nearby activities, this is another example of a Disney resort that you can visit and have a great time without ever going to a theme park. The stately grandeur of this resort can provide a pleasant counterpoint to the bright and busy feel of the theme parks. The resort goes the extra mile in making things fun and comfortable for families and many of our clients return to this resort again and again. There are those, however, who don't think "lodge" when they look for deluxe accommodations - if you fall into that category, you might prefer the Disney Grand Floridian, Contemporary, or Yacht Club resorts. You may run across older websites that say you can request rooms where you can see the Magic Kingdom fireworks from this resort. Fireworks View is a separate room category and is very limited with the highest price of the regular hotel-style rooms.

Wilderness Lodge Dining
Roaring Fork (Quick Service) is the primary counter service dining location at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. It is located inside of the main building, steps from the lobby and has both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and serves up a mix of specialty items as well as grab-and-go choices like trail mix, yogurt, chips, pretzels, bakery items, and fruit.
Geyser Point Bar & Grill (Quick Service) is a casual outdoor eatery that serves lunch and dinner from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm. The restaurant offers a walk-up window for dining from the comfort of your lounge chair or at a table on the restaurant’s spacious outdoor deck with a beautiful view of Bay Lake .
Whispering Canyon Café (Table Service) - is a western themed restaurants with fun activities for younger kids. Available for breakfast, lunch or dinner, this is a very popular restaurant and dinner reservations often fill up early. The "Whispering" part of the name is either ironic or just an out-and-out lie because this restaurant is noisy by design with dinner bells and the servers are known for their silly antics and tomfoolery which makes the dining experience fun and memorable. My wife will only go to this restaurant on a non-theme park day; she says it is just too much after all the auditory and visual stimulation of a day in a Disney park. If you go, be sure to ask for catsup, request straws, or get a refill on your drink.
Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White (Table Service) is a signature character dining experience that offers a prix fixe menu. The restaurant serves dinner with visits from Snow White, Dopey and Grumpy. The menu has undergone a few changes recently and includes shared starters, a choice of individual plated entrees, and 'sweet spells' desserts in an Enchanted Forest inspired setting with delightful music and activities. It also offers creative and fun cocktails (and mocktails) and a variety of beers in bottles and on draft. The restaurant is an unforgettable Disney dining experience that perfectly combines a whimsical and immersive atmosphere with character dining.
Room Service - Available for breakfast from 7:00AM - 11:00AM and dinner from 4:00PM to Midnight.
Pizza Delivery - 4:00PM to Midnight. (Keep in mind that the only thing Disney doesn't do well is pizza.)
Territory Lounge - 4:00PM - 10:00PM. This fun and well-themed lounge is located off the resort’s lobby and sits adjacent to Storybook Dining at Artist Point. Inside Territory Lounge, you’ll find a rustic yet chic atmosphere with natural wood accents and cozy furnishings. It features dark woods, rich color, and excellent details. It’s an excellent gastropub, and is one of our favorite hidden gems at Walt Disney World. It offers American style cuisine, mostly appetizers and finger foods such as soups, wings, burgers, nachos, flatbreads, and even dessert.
