What is a Hidden Mickey?

According to Steven Barret, Author of Hidden Mickeys: A Field Guide to Disney's Best Kept Secrets:

“A hidden Mickey is a partial or complete impression of Mickey Mouse placed by the Imagineers and artists to blend into the designs of Disney attractions, hotels, restaurants, and other areas."

The most common Hidden Mickey form is the tri-circle Mickey frontal silhouette: three circles that form Mickey's round head and adjoining round ears.

Less common Hidden Mickeys may include a side or oblique (usually three-quarter) profile of Mickey's face and head, a side profile of his entire body, a full-body frontal sillouette, a detailed picture of his face or body, or a three-dimensional Mickey. Sometimes, just his gloves, hand prints, shoes, or ears appear. Even his name or initials in unusual places may qualify as a Hidden Mickey.   You may also spot other characters such as Hidden Minnies, Donald Ducks, Goofys, etc.

Anyone interested in hunting down hidden Mickeys at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando , Florida should check out Steven Barret's website.  His book can be purchased at bookstores, some Disney World gift shops or from Amazon.com.  He also has a Hidden Mickey book for Disneyland (California).

Anyone visiting Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort should ask for a list of the lodge's Hidden Mickeys at the hotel's Guest Services desk. While you are there, be sure to check out Fire Rock Geyser which shoots a 120 spray of water every half hour from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. You will find signs to the man-made geyser from the back of the resort, near the pool area.
