Port Orleans French Quarter Pro & Con
Advantages - The resort's compact design is a definite plus after a long day in the Walt Disney World theme parks - you've done enough walking and don't need a long hike to your room. It is a moderate level resort, but we do feel that it provides a true resort experience with a range of on-site activities that cater to all ages, from themed pool parties to serene lounging by the poolside. Boats provide quick access to Disney Springs, enhancing its appeal, providing easy access to dining, shopping, and entertainment options. Live music is offered several nights a week at Scat Cat’s Lounge (also a feature of Port Orleans Riverside resort). Port Orleans French Quarter is the first stop on the shared buses with neighboring Port Orleans Riverside resort. Fountains, architecture, and landscaping make this a very pretty resort. The pool is very cute and has a fun sea serpent water slide and the splash play area is perfect for your little ones.
Disadvantages - This is the only moderate resort that does not have an on-site table service restaurant, although restaurants are available at Disney Springs and Port Orleans Riverside Resort. There is no quiet pool; the resort only has the main feature pool. Additionally, while boat transportation to Disney Springs offers convenience, those seeking immediate access to the theme parks should factor in travel time. Room capacity is capped at up to four adults, though you can add a baby in a pack-in-play to that number. Larger families will need two adjoining rooms.
Our Opinion of Port Orleans French Quarter:
We love Disney's Port Orleans Resort! The smaller size is a definite advantage after a long day walking in the Disney theme parks - especially if you're carrying a small child. The resort is lovely in a way that appeals to children, adults, and seniors and we love the Mickey-shaped beignets available for purchase. It is one of two Disney moderate resorts with a splash play area for young kids. The renovated rooms are fresh and very comfortable. Because the rooms at Port Orleans French Quarter do not have balconies, we don't consider it generally worth the cost to upgrade to a water view room. Because of the amount of time we spend in the theme parks, we feel like all of the Disney World moderate resorts strike a great balance of convenience, resort experience, and price.
